Mr. Pandora stays silent on Draconian IRFA Court Packing and Union Busting
It’s really stunning that Tim Westergren and Pandora’s Minister of Truth Mollie Starr have been absolutely silent about the IRFA court packing and union busting sections. Why is this? Are they trying to get artists to focus on how much Pandora has paid under the very rates that Pandora now wants to cut in half? And ignore the other really bad parts of their “Internet Radio Fairness Act”?
Westergren and Starr need to take ownership of the entire bill and explain why it is that they feel the need to be able to hold the threat of criminal prosecution under the Sherman Act over the heads of artist unions. What does that have to do with the sainted innovation?
Not to mention the fact that several of these draconian remedies would prevent SoundExchange from being able to directly bargain on the very reduced rates that Pandora now enjoys as a pureplay webcaster as permitted by the Webcaster Settlement Acts.
Westergren and Starr need to come clean about their true intentions–get Chaffetz and Polis to jam truly ruthless censorship laws–real censorship–down the throats of artists, their unions, free speech and the rights of assembly and association.
