I’m Sorry Dave, I’m Afraid I Can’t Do That: A day of silence
In other news from the Goolag, the anti-artist forces are hard at work to have a blackout online to protest SOPA.
How about this–let’s have a blackout offline to protest the protest.
No music radio.
No Vegas shows.
Now stop and think about that for a minute. How many hours–or minutes–do you think it would take before America came unglued if there were no television. No television at all. Do you think people would start to wonder what they paid for a 52 inch television for?
No television news. No interviews of Zoe Lofgren and Daryl Issa and Jared Polis. No new YouTube clips of television shows. Remember–48 hours a minute of new stuff is uploaded on YouTube. What if there were no new sources of UGC to rip?
And–no candidate debates.
Now admit it–would it really bother you if you missed a candidate debate? No negative political ads for an entire day! An entire day.
So while we’re about rogue sites legislation, let’s also amend the compulsory license provisions of the Copyright Act so that songwriters and artists can terminate licenses of people they don’t like.
Let’s just turn it all off.
